Rukungiri ->Uganda
Beautiful as they look, the falls have got a dark history attached to them. The site is located in Rukungiri district on River Kyabamba a few meters from Rukungiri Hospital. It is known as a punishment site where Bakiga girls who got pregnant out of wedlock were thrown to scare others so that they would not engage in premarital sex that led to early pregnancies. The barbaric practice is said to have stopped when one girl pulled her dad and brother down the fall with her.
The falls are surrounded by a small forest with many beautiful bird species therefore the visitors can also do a nature walk and bird watching while visiting the falls not forgetting the cultural interactions with the Bakiga community neighboring the falls. Photography is a must do while at the falls.
